So last week started off with a great Monday evening with my friend Eye. Eye invited Niko, Antoine, and I over to her aunt's house to enjoy a home-cooked meal after we helped her mom pack up her store at a Monday market. Her mom makes really cute clothes for little girls and sells them at a Monday market so we got to walk around there for a bit, we were the only tourists around, it was pretty cool. Then we ate a wonderful dinner at Eye's aunt's house. Her family was so nice and accommodating. Thai people never cease to amaze me.
Wednesday night a bunch of exchange students to Red Sky, a Sky bar on top of the hotel connected to Central World (a high end shopping mall). We went to happy hour to celebrate Marie-Pier's (my french Canadian friend) 22nd birthday. The views were amazing and drinks, though quite expensive, were delicious.

Then we headed to a restaurant called Crepes and Co. which was a french restaurant that served many different kinds of crepes. I ordered the Lasagna Crepe and made my own dessert crepe (consisting of bananas, chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream). One of the best meals I've had in Bangkok. We headed out to Khao San Road to celebrate the evening. All in all Marie's birthday was great!

Later that week Marie, Antoine, and I headed to Pattaya. Pattaya is known for to be a very interesting place. In my guide book it is mentioned as a mix between Amsterdam and Las Vegas... only it tops both of them. I have never seen so many hookers in my life, and there was no one there our age. The tourists all consisted of middle age to older men and then quite a few families with young kids and then of course all the hookers. I have never seen such a strange mix of people.

So we saw the sights... some interesting ones, and then took a ferry ride to Koh Larn for a day and enjoyed a partly sunny day at the beach. The beach also consisted of a few interesting characters... mainly older Russian men in speedos, playing soccer. Then we headed back to Bangkok after only a little over 24 hours of being gone, I felt like I had been there for three days...

When we got back we rested our minds for a day and then Saturday a group of us headed to Wat Arun and Wat Kalayanamit. Wat Arun is the Temple of Dawn and right on the River ... that runs through Bangkok. It has some great views of the river and the Royal Palace across the river.

Later that night we went Marie and I headed to Tesco to get some groceries and while we were there we picked up some cheese, a baguette, and some beer to celebrate Antoine's birthday. After that we headed to another one of the barbeque places for a big group dinner and then sang some karaoke back at Evergreen in one of our apartments. Finally we ended the festivities on Khao San Road with some dancing in the street, as usual.

Sunday was a bit slow. I needed a rest after the long week, but Monday night and Tuesday night I got the urge to cook for some of the other exchange students. There is a market right behind our hotel where you can buy fresh vegetables and meat and spices and sauce and curry! All for extremely cheap. I think I bought enough food for 10 people for less than $20. Amazing! and the dinners were both very good, I know that may come as a surprise to some but you can ask my roommates or the other students I cooked for, I swear they liked it.
