Koh Phi Phi: Weekend 2 of my Parents' visit

Last Wednesday night my parents and I flew from Bangkok to Krabi, a coastal town in Southern Thailand.
After we arrived and checked into our hotel for the night we headed to the night market to get some local food. In this part of Thailand there is a much larger population of Muslim people and many of the stands at the markets were run by local Muslim families. The food was just as good as in Bangkok though so don't worry. We also tried the wonderful roti pancakes which is roti bread lightly fried with egg and banana in the middle and Nutella on top. Delicious.

The next morning we caught the early ferry to Koh Phi Phi. Krabi and Koh Phi Phi are on the western side of tiny strip of land that is the Southern Thailand. On the west side is the Andaman Sea.

My perch for the ferry ride, notice how good my ankle looks now from my motorbike accident! and my toenail polish is the same polish from Thanksgiving, its a nice look

We arrived at Ton Sai Bay on Koh Phi Phi around 11 and immediately took a boat to our resort, 360 Villa. The pictures pretty much speak for themselves. The place was amazing. A nice change from the cheap little bungalows I'm used to staying in, thank you Dad :)

The first day we pretty much just hung out on the beach and at the pool, had a nice dinner and went to bed early. This was pretty much the story of the trip. So relaxing, great food, lots of sun. A wonderful weekend if you ask me.

The tide had gone out quite far....

Happy Hour!

At dinner with our delicious food, that white snapper in chili sauce.. that's mine :)

The next day we took a longboat (Dad loved these because they are the same boats used in the boat chase in one of the James Bond movies) around Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Ley (the big and small islands of Koh Phi Phi, Koh Phi Phi Ley is just south of Phi Phi Don) and were able to stop and snorkel at several different places. We also stopped at the famous Mayan Bay on Koh Phi Phi Ley, which is where The Beach was filmed in 2000 with Leonardo Dicaprio.

The sand was amazing

This was our third snorkel destination but you could walk through from Mayan Bay to see it

The parents snorkeled while I napped with Bao on the boat

While we were snorkeling near this beautiful sandbar in Koh Phi Phi Ley, I was attempting to take a picture of this fish. This particular fish, for some reason, just really did not appreciate me doing this so as I was taking its picture it glared at me and then I watched it bite my leg and then continue to give me the death look. So naturally I swam away, gave it some space. When I was done snorkeling I went back to the sandbar to just hang out with my dad in the water and as I'm telling him this story, another fish (I'm pretty sure it was the same one) bit me again, in the same spot.
So obviously I freaked out and got back in the boat as my parents proceeded to make fun of me. Then suddenly I heard a similar yelp from dad as a fish bit him in the leg as well. Guess its not so funny anymore right?
Needless to say these fish (or maybe just this one I was so fortunate to find) were a bit territorial at this particular spot.

That fish (kinda hard to see) that is staring at me is the little devil that bit me

Ton Sai Bay- on our way back to our resort

After the boat trip we just relaxed for the day. Dad and I always made it to happy hour (5-6 everyday) for the FREE drinks, but right around this time each day the wind would pick up and one of the days it began to rain for about an hour. It would always go away in time for dinner though.
Another storm on the horizon, this one missed us but it was cool to watch

The tide had really gone out this time

Happy Hour!

The next morning we checked out the local town behind the beach resort and walked to Loh Lana beach to just chill out for the morning. The sand was beautiful. Then Dad and I hiked to a viewpoint. It was quite a sweaty ordeal with the humidity and nearly 100 degree weather. The view was quite pretty though. Then we had another relaxing afternoon, a little happy hour, and one last delicious dinner before we headed out in the morning on a ferry to Phuket to catch our plane back to Bangkok.

This was our ride back to Ton Sai for us to catch the ferry, it went a lot faster than the longtail boat

The weekend was just what I needed, a nice relaxing time with my parents to alleviate my homesickness a little bit. The parents left Sunday night and made it safely back to Chicago by Monday morning. I'm so glad they came, I had a great time :)
